(I used the rolling clothes technique.)
We stopped in Conyers to drop off a car, say bon voyage to our grandparents & kitties, and fix mom's computer before heading to the airport. We checked 4 bags on Air France (no charge!) which meant we only had to carry book bags around the airport. This made security extremely easy to get through, even with all the undressing and re-dressing.
The best part of Air France: fantastic airplane food, and free wine. Yes, free. Now, any good traveller knows that flying dehydrates you, so I had lots of water and only a teeny bit of white wine with my fricassée de poulet. I watched Bride Wars while Rocky read. The flight went by so fast! We arrived, walked off the plane, barely had to flash our passports, and walked through some glass doors into Charles de Gaulle... and that's where our adventure began.
We were not supposed to walk through the glass doors. Having seen no signs for baggage we had walked outside security and were stuck on the wrong side of the wall! To their credit, every french person that helped us was very nice. Unfortunately, they did not all give us the correct information. We walked from Terminal C to E at the direction of one person, only to be sent upstairs and then back downstairs THREE TIMES waiting for just the right person to take us back behind security, at which point we learned we had to go all the way back to Terminal C to get our bags. The bags were there safely so we can't really complain! It took us quite a while to do all this walking (I wish I had my pedometer!) so we missed the TGV train we had planned to catch.
Luckily, we met up with Alex and John to hand off the wedding stationery we brought them and they helped us purchase train tickets. They were really excited to get the invitations:
We caught the train and rode at about 150km/h to Metz.
Susan and David met us at the Lorraine station, and the adventure continued...
Check out Susan's perspective of our arrival.
